Working for a better world

markBirgitte have always been passionate about the environment and sustainability. This dates back from having grown up in the countryside and in an environmentally conscious mother. Our brand strategies are environmentally focused and in support of positive social and environmental practices. A lot of our fabrics are sustainable, have high focus of not overproducing, and high quality and long lasting garments are our main focus. Our stainable fabrics are certified by international agencies, polybags are recyclable, and hangtags are made of FSC certified paper.

Fabric Guide 101

Organic cotton is cotton that is produced and certified to organic agricultural standards. Its production sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people by using natural processes rather than artificial inputs. Importantly organic cotton farming does not allow the use of toxic chemicals or GMOs (genetically modified organisms). Instead, it combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote a good quality of life for all involved.

Forest Stewardship Council, an organization established to promote  responsible management of the world's forests. FSC certificates ensures that forest products such as viscose, bamboo etc. are sourced from well-managed forests and / or recycled materials. If the rate of harvesting these materials does not exceed the rate at which the forest can regenerate, and harvesting is done in a way that allows forests to continue to play their role in ecosystem health, then forests can be a reliable and sustainable source of raw materials.

Recycled Polyester is a man-made fabric produced from synthetic fibers. However, instead of utilizing new materials to craft the fabric (i.e. petroleum), recycled polyester makes use of existing plastic. In many cases, those existing plastics are your old water bottles, which are then processed.

EcoVero is derived from certified renewable wood sources using an eco-responsible production process by meeting high environmental standards, EcoVero fibers tailor to a sustainable lifestyle, contributing to a cleaner environment. Compared to conventional viscose production, the production of EcoVero causes 50 percent less emissions and takes up half as much energy and water in addition to its pulp bleaching being 100 percent chlorine-free.

Mulesing Free means cutting skin from around a lamb’s breech to create an area of bare, stretched skin. Because the scarred skin has no folds or wrinkles to hold moisture and feces, it is less likely to attract blowflies who might cause the death of the sheep. Mulesing is a painful surgical procedure for sheep and it can be avoided. No animal should have to go through the pain and stress that this kind of procedure causes.
